Reducing Car Insurance Premiums UK

Cover type
First you must decide what type of cover you require. The options are third party, third party fire and theft or fully comprehensive. The difference in cost between these types can vary tremendously.

No Claims Discount (NCD)
Every year you have personal vehicle insurance and you do not claim, your no claims discount builds up. This can save you up to 60% off your premium and as such is the single biggest factor in reducing insurance costs. If you have fully comprehensive cover, for a small premium you can have a protected no claims discount or PNCD

Choice of Vehicle
Before you buy a new vehicle, it would be wise to get a couple of insurance quotes so you won't get a shock later. Read our quick guide to which vehicle to choose.

Security
Consider fitting some extra security devices such as a Thatcham approved alarm system. Some insurance companies may give you a discount. Consider where the car will be stored as a garaged vehicle will be cheaper to insure than one parked on a public street.

Driver Special Rates
Special rates can be negotiated for many drivers for a variety of reasons. Driver skill is the most common so completing an advanced driving course could save you 5%.
